How to use and turn off Internet Explorer's "helpful" image resizing feature:
 
For the current image only:
  • Internet Explorer 7 - when an image has been re-sized (shrunk), the mouse cursor becomes a magnifying glass. Simply click anywhere on the image to toggle resizing off and on.
  • Internet Explorer 6 - put the mouse pointer anywhere on the image and leave it still. An icon will appear at the bottom-right corner of the image. Click on it to turn off resizing.
Permanently:
  • Click on the Internet Explorer Tools menu, or the "gear" button
  • Click on Internet Options
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Scroll down to the Multimedia section, and un-check the Enable Automatic Image Resizing option
